Here, sometimes we call Osaka as 'Saikyo', which means 'Weatern Capital City'(西京, Sai-Kyo, West-Capital city). In 7th century, 'Naniwano-miya" Palace located in the south of Osaka castle, was the capital city of Japan. In 710, Nara became the capital city (Hei-jyo-kyo) and Kyoto in 794. Until 1192 when the capital city moved to Kamakura, the center of Japan remained in Kansai area, that we call this 'Saikyo',where several origins of art, crafts, popcultures have been alive for thousands of years.
This blog is collections of Japanese Pop Culture that is created in "Saikyo" (西京,West Capital city of Japan) area. "Tokyo(東京)" is known as the East Capital city of Japan, Tokyo the Metropolitan whose population is around 34 Millions (Tokyo,Kanagawa,Chiba and Saitama Prefectures). On the other hand, "Saikyo" area is called 'Kansai(関西)",that can be translated as 'Western part of the gate', actually Kansai area is covered 5 prefectures of Osaka,Hyogo(Kobe),Kyoto,Nara and Wakayama. In edo era, Japanese Samurai regime established a 'Sekisho(関所)' in Hakone mountain to pose passangers going to the metropolitan with several taxes. From Osaka,Kyoto and other areas, passangers on a horse and by foot should have passed through this gate, 'Sekisho' in Hakone mountain.
